OSHA report reveals increase in worker fatalities

Every year, thousands of workers throughout Georgia and the rest of the U.S. are injured or killed while on the job. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the rate of workplace fatalities increased sharply in 2016.

NHTSA campaign for holiday drunk driving begins

Georgia motorists know that getting behind the wheel after having had too much to drink is never a good idea. They may not know that around the country there were an average of 300 drunk driving accident fatalities between Christmas and New Year's Day every year for the last five years. To help reduce the numbers of drunk driving fatalities, the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission has started its annual Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over initiative.

Highlighting the dangers of driving while impaired

Sadly, many families in Georgia have had to endure the harrowing experience of losing loved ones as a result of an automobile accident connected to alcohol. In 2016, it was estimated that 10,000 people died across the United States in automobile accidents connected to alcohol. This is a troubling pattern that must be reversed.

MARTA and public safety

Because motor vehicle accidents are in the news constantly, it may seem as if taking public transportation is a safer way to go. Thousands of people in Atlanta do use the city's public transport system, MARTA, each and every day.

Outdoor workers face health concerns during the colder months

Working outdoors in Georgia can be difficult no matter what the weather is like, but during the colder months, outdoor workers face potentially life-threatening conditions. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, released studies that show exposed skin, even with no wind present, can actually freeze within one minute in -20°F temperatures. As wind speeds pick up, this threshold lessens considerably.

The impact of driving under the influence

Impaired driving can make Georgia roads far more dangerous. In 2015, alcohol-related fatalities made up 29 percent of the overall traffic-related deaths in the United States. It also accounted for 209 deaths of those 14 and younger. That was 16 percent of all traffic-related deaths of people in that age group.
